A trip to Morocco just isn't complete without visiting the Sahara Desert, and there's no better way to do it than with a weekend escape near Zagora. This itinerary is packed with thrilling activities, stunning landscapes, and unforgettable cultural experiences. And the best part? You don't need to spend hours researching or making individual reservations. By booking your stay at Dar Hnini, you'll have access to an itinerary planner who can help build your perfect weekend—without the headache. Below is a breakdown of everything we did during our 4-day, 3-night stay, entirely organized by Dar Hnini. It was incredible, to say the least, but they will work with you to make adjustments so that it checks off everything on your weekend wishlist.
As a disclaimer, this is not a sponsored blog or ad. We genuinely loved our stay with Dar Hnini, but if you book using the affiliate link below it will help support our small business <3
Day 1: Arrival & Desert Camp Adventure
Morning: We were coming from Marrakech, so Dar Hnini arranged a driver to meet us at the airport and take us to our desert "glampsite." Along the drive, we stopped at a museum and local fossil shop to see some of the incredible archaeological finds that have been discovered from when the Sahara was underwater millions of years ago.
Afternoon: Kick off your desert adventure with an exhilarating guided ATV ride across the dunes. Then continue the drive to your luxurious tented camp, nestled far away from civilization. Cool off in the tented refreshing pool or retreat to your private tent for a shower and a moment of relaxation. When we say "glamping," we mean it. This wasn't your average tent - expect fans, a king-sized bed, a bathtub and shower, a patio overlooking the dunes, double sinks, and more. It was more spacious than even the nicest hotel rooms we've stayed at throughout the year. Plus the campsite hosts were incredibly welcoming and friendly.
Evening: As the sun sets, enjoy a delicious local dinner prepared with traditional Moroccan flavors. Then, gather around the campfire for a night of entertainment under the stars with traditional music.
Day 2: Sunrise Camel Trekking & Sandboarding
Early Morning: Rise before dawn for an incredible sunrise camel trek. There’s nothing quite like watching the light of day break over the dunes. Afterward, return to camp for a hearty Moroccan breakfast. Warning: Be prepared for an ABSURD amount of food. Whoever says American portion sizes are big has clearly never been to Morocco.
Late Morning: For the adventurous, after breakfast, you can grab a sandboard and head back to the dunes just walking distance from camp. It's a thrilling way to experience the desert’s natural playground. Afterward, pack up and prepare for the journey to Dar Hnini Resort.
Afternoon/Evening: On the drive, you'll have the chance to explore local markets, where you can shop for unique crafts, snacks, and souvenirs. Then arrive at a literal oasis of luxury in the desert. After checking in, unwind by the resort pool or enjoy a relaxing massage. The evening is yours to explore the resort’s many amenities or simply relax in your private villa.
Day 3: Resort Relaxation & Cultural Exploration
Morning: After a leisurely breakfast, spend the morning lounging at the resort’s pools and gardens, or join a local guide for a walking tour of the nearby town.
Afternoon: For lunch, enjoy a luxurious multi-course picnic. When they told us a "picnic" lunch was included this DEFINITELY wasn't what we had in mind, so it was a surprise in the best way. The spread featured breads and dips, meats grilled outside, too many sides to count, and fruit salad for dessert.
Evening: Hope you're ready for even more food, they take all-inclusive very seriously. Enjoy more Moroccan dishes and wine before your last night in the villa.
Day 4: Departure
Morning: Savor one last enormous Moroccan breakfast before packing your bags. Your private transfer will take you to your next destination, but the memories of your Sahara adventure will stay with you forever.
As mentioned before we highly recommend booking with Dar Hnini. We had the best time and they made the planning and organization a breeze for a culturally-rich yet luxurious Sahara Desert adventure. If you book using the link below we'll love you forever <3 Safe travels!
